De prachtige Scenografie van Mirella Weingarten in Figurine van Lieselot de Wilde - een muur di uitenvaalt in ronddraaiende balken, als wieken, waar de sopraan onder/door/langs moet zien te dansen.

The stunning scenography by Mirella Weingarten in Figurine by Lieselot De Wilde - a wall that falls apart in turning beams, like sails, where the soprano needs to be dancing under/through/around.

In Mirella Weingarten's beautiful scenography, De Wilde has to roughly relate to three elements: a rectangular wooden block, consisting of stacked beams that hinge and rotate individually, a mirrored playing surface and bassist and sound designer Brecht Beuselinck, who sits behind the audience in the shadows. Oh yes, and of course the audience itself, which sits around De Wilde's stage and can therefore view her from every perspective. In itself, Weingarten's object is already worth a look: what a beautiful thing it is, that wooden wall that De Wilde hangs wearily against, while the reflective stage under her feet creates enchanting shadows on the walls (lighting design is by Jannes Dierynck). This 'figure', sober in black as the explicit negation of a 'character', slowly makes the wall turn. De Wilde leans her forehead against the wall, then her chin, her eyes closed, as if the initiation of the movement occurs unconsciously, beyond her control.

(...) In dialogue with a sculpture by scenographer Mirella Weingarten, and in a musical language that is as colourful as it is unique, De Wilde plays a game of moving and being moved. How do you shape yourself and your world? How do you break free from templates and patterns? And what variety of forms can emerge from that?Figurine is the artistic self-portrait of a budding maker, and an ode to freedom and pluriformity.
